So, what’s my story?

I’ve always been a collector – stamps, posters, pretty much anything collectible including coins.

Like many people, my coin collection started with the interesting coins that I found in my change. As I found them, I used to put them in a container on my shelf and the pile grew and grew.

One day, a friend was over and asked about whether the coins were worth anything? At that point, I only collected the unusual versions of 20c, 50c and $1 coins. So he really was asking “are they worth ANYTHING?” because he thought that they were just monopoly money. And at that point, I didn’t have any way to prove otherwise.

So I started doing some research, and discovered the amazing amount of information about coins and collecting. (I also discovered all the other coins that I was missing from my collection, but that’s a different story).

Years ago, I started a Facebook page to keep links to the new coins being produced by the Mint, and discovered that there are a lot of other people interested in coin collecting. I also found that everyone had the same problem – how to find the value of the coins.

Some people found interesting coins. Others inherited entire collections and didn’t even know what the coins were. When they asked me what the value of their coins were, I didn’t know the answers, but I knew how to find them. And that is how this site came to be.
